2023-2024 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
The YMCA strengthens the foundations of community through our focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Pennsylvania YMCAs are found in diverse communities around the state, serve urban, suburban and rural communities and bring together young and old, men and women, from all faiths, backgrounds and incomes.
1) The Alliance supports the Building Opportunity through Out of School Time (BOOST) Program legislation to provide a permanent and sustainable source of funding for afterschool and out of school time programs operated by community based organizations. (House Bill 2429 – current Session)
2) The Alliance supports legislation or regulations to permanently increase the wages of professional child care staff.
3) The Alliance supports legislation or regulations to change the age and experience requirements for child care assistants and aides to ensure a larger pool of qualified child care staff.
4) The Alliance supports legislation to establish a state-level universal charitable deduction. (House Bill 2101 – current Session)
5) The Alliance opposes language to expand the Pennsylvania sales tax to include memberships to charitable organizations and child care services.
