2017 YMCA Advocacy Week

The 4th annual YMCA Advocacy Week was held August 7-11, 2017 across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Local Ys invited local, county, state and federal elected officials to their facilities for a host of different activities ranging from “meet and greet” sessions to reading to children to facility tours and presentations.

North Penn YMCA

Over 100 community leaders, including two Montgomery Country Commissioners, attended the dedication of the Lansdale Branch to to Elizabeth and Eric Arneth. The Lansdale Family Family YMCA received $3 million dollars from a Charitable Remainder Trust. YMCA of York and York County

Advocacy Week continued with a visit to Camp Spirit, a summer camp location of the YMCA of York and York County. The Advocacy Event began with a flag ceremony led by some of the campers.

The Advocacy Event included a tour of the campgrounds, specifically featuring their craft room, outdoor pool, basketball courts, archery range, and amphitheater.

To conclude the event, campers used rubber bands to make a watermelon explode and dropped Mentos and rock salt into various types of soda. The experiments were part of Science Week. Each week, the camp has a different themes that determines what activities the campers get to experience.

Lebanon Valley Family YMCA
