Engage Elected Officials in August
The month of August is prime time to invite your federal, state, county and local elected officials to your Y. The purpose of these visits should be to educate them about the work you are doing and the specific needs you have for which they can be of assistance.
What can you do when you invite them to visit? Here are a few suggestions:
- Tour your facility
- Meet with senior staff and board members
- Read to child care children
- Participate in a summer camp activity
- Share testimonials from program participants, parents and/or partners
- Take photos and share widely on social media; tag the elected officials
Elected officials frequently get invited to visit local businesses and enterprises so make sure they remember their visit to your Y!
If you have applied for RACP grants, invitations for your state legislators are a must. Educate them about why you are applying for the funds. Give them ample reasons to support your application.
If you have applied for a federal “earmark,” invite your Member of Congress and Senators Casey and Toomey to visit your Y and learn more about how that earmark will help your community.
Please be sure to review the “Engaging Public Officials 2022” document prepared by Y-USA Government Relations for more ideas about how to make the most of these opportunities.
Do not forget to let the State Alliance staff know about any elected officials visiting your Y! We are here to support and assist you in any way possible!
