Initiatives

The PA Alliance of YMCAs is focused on supporting YMCAs throughout the Commonwealth in their support to each unique community. With the vast differences in what those communities look like, it is important that everyone’s collective voice is focused on several key initiatives that are important to all:

Child Care: Never has child care been as challenging for families not only to access, but to remain budget friendly as well. YMCAs strive to be the leading provider that has capacity to be both high quality and affordable. Quality child care keeps kids safe and entertained, but additionally provides opportunities for enrichment and socialization that many may not otherwise get.

Chronic Disease Prevention: So many times, understanding that the old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” couldn’t be more accurate. Whether it is understanding better how to prevent the onset of diabetes, help someone to stop smoking or to be a trusted resource for someone who is battling and overcoming cancer, the Y is there.

PA Alliance of YMCAs Strategic Imperatives

Advocate for the needs of local Ys

  • Raise the profile of local Ys so legislators think of us first
  • Lead statewide communication and brand awareness efforts so PA residents understand our mission
  • Align our efforts with other Alliances to influence Y USAs strategies, priorities, and resources
  • Advocate for childcare policies and regulations to enhance our ability to operate sustainable and impactful childcare programs throughout the state

Strengthen local Ys

  • Lead efforts and initiatives that focus on developing staff so that we can perpetuate and grow future movement leaders
  • Enhance and deliver strategies, resources, and services needed by local Ys so that they are equipped to serve their communities
  • Focus efforts on improving quality child care resources that strengthen local Ys programming and sustainability
  • Utilize the Management Services Organization (MSO) to benefit local Ys and streamline back-office functions

Strengthen the Alliance

  • Identify potential Pennsylvania state budget line items for YMCAs and legislative members who would support it
  • EAdvance Alliance priorities in YMCA contract discussions
  • Position the Alliance to take advantage of Y USA opportunities
  • Analyze key data to strengthen the Alliance’s negotiating position
  • Match staff/skills to state priorities/Y USA deliverables
